Nick Cave, der australische Singer-Songwriter und Frontmann von The Bad Seeds, hat zwölf Litaneien für ein neues Vokalwerk des belgischen Komponisten und Nobelpreisträgers Nicholas Lens geschrieben. Eine »reine Form der Poesie« sei die Litanei, sagt Lens, »lyrischer Minimalismus, der in Trance versetzen kann« Die Idee, „Litaneien“ im musikalischen Gewand zu veröffentlichen, kam von dem belgischen Opernkomponist Nicholas Lens. Und wer wäre dafür prädestinierter, als der australische Songpoet und Meister der dunklen Lyrics - Nick Cave Es sind 12 brillante Stücke entstanden, die klassisch wie gleichsam modern und zeitlos sind. und von herausragenden SängerInnen wie u.a. Clara-Lane Lens und Nicholas L. Noorenbergh vorgetragen werden. Zeitverschwendung ist ihre Sache nicht. Doch nicht nur das haben Nicholas Lens und Nick Cave gemeinsam. Gleich zu Beginn des Covid-Lockdowns fanden sich beide Musiker in derselben Situation, sie stellten fest, dass ihre Termine in diesem Jahr nicht nach Plan verlaufen würden. Lens’ Opern wurden abgesagt, Caves Nordamerika- und Europa-Konzerte mit seiner Band The Bad Seeds auf 2021 verschoben. Für Lens, den Vielbeschäftigten, ist Zeit ein rares Gut seit seinem internationalen Publikumserfolg 2012 mit seiner Oper Slow Man, deren Libretto der Schriftsteller und Nobelpreisträger für Literatur J. M. Coetzee schrieb. Doch nun hatte er Zeit. Er begann seine Heimatstadt Brüssel mit dem Fahrrad zu erkunden, sah ungewohnt leere Straßen, genoss die saubere Luft, merkte auf ob der überraschenden Ruhe und erinnerte sich schließlich an einen völlig anderen Ort: an Yamanouchi, Kamakura, eine grüne Hügellandschaft in der japanischen Kanagawa-Präfektur, wo die ältesten und ehrwürdigsten Rinzai-Zen-Tempel der Welt stehen. Eine Reise hatte ihn einmal dorthin geführt und tief bewegt. »Die Idee zu L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S war tatsächlich damals in mir entstanden in der natürlichen Stille, die aus dem verregneten, leuchtend grünen Wald aufsteigt, der diese Tempel aus dem 13. Jahrhundert umgibt«, sagt Lens, »und da mein Gedächtnis in musikalischen Phrasen arbeitet, war die Komposition von L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S meine Art, mich auch an den Frieden zu erinnern, den ich bei meinem Besuch in Japan gefunden hatte.« Und auch ein Mensch kam ihm in den Sinn: Nick Cave. Lens und Cave hatten bei der Oper Shell Shock (2014) zusammengearbeitet, allerdings an einem gänzlich anderen Thema, Shell Shock handelt vom Schrecken des Krieges. Lens sagt: »Es war mir wichtig, jemanden zu finden, für den diese Musik im Grunde Neuland ist, sodass er die Sprache auf glaubhafte und authentische Weise einsetzt. Nick war der Richtige.« Und der erzählt: »Nicholas rief mich während des Lockdowns an und fragte, ob ich zwölf ›Litaneien‹ schreiben könnte. Ich sagte zu, schlug nach dem Gespräch als Erstes nach, was eine Litanei ist – ›eine Abfolge von religiösen Bittgebeten‹ – und erkannte, dass ich zeit meines Lebens nichts anderes geschrieben habe.« So dichtete er diese Stücke. Sie folgen den menschlichen Lebensstationen Geburt, Blüte, Zerbrechen und Wiedergeburt und sind »Bittgebete an einen göttlichen Schöpfer um eine kosmische Antwort«, so Cave. Für Lens ist die Litanei »eine reine Form der Poesie ... lyrischer Minimalismus, der in Trance versetzen kann«, aber er räumt ein, dass ihre Vorstellungen eben unterschiedlich sind. Die Herzen sind aufwühlt, beinah gebrochen, aber nur beinah. Alles bleibt wunderbar entspannt und geht wohl gerade deshalb so nah. Mit „You Don’t Have To Worry“,der zweiten Single ihrer im Herbst erscheinenden EP GIRL, nehmen die drei Frauen von COUCOU uns mit in ihr eigenes kleines Universum. Der Song erzählt mit einer bittersüßen Leichtigkeit, wie man in schwierigen Zeiten trotz aller Sorgen und Nöte versucht, zuversichtlich und mit erhobenem Haupt durchs Leben zu gehen, mit einem Lächeln im Gesicht - obwohl einem manchmal vielleicht eher zum Heulen zumute ist. „Look at me, I don’t even cry – that was just a raindrop, falling into my eye - you don’t have to worry ‚bout me“heißt es im Refrain und so geht es zur Zeit wahrscheinlich vielen von uns. Im Song schwirren glockige Töne durch den Raum, die Akustik Gitarre breitet einen weichen Teppich aus und Steffis E-Gitarre tanzt ihre eingängigen Melodien darüber. Dazu kommen eine Vielzahl überraschender, analoger Sound. Die begnadeten Stimmen der beiden Sängerinnen Janda und Meryem Kiliç verströmen eine Harmonie, die verzaubert. Als Rhythmusmaschine dient ein altes, rauschendes Omnichord. Die etwas kurios anmutende elektronische Harfe kam schon bei KünstlerInnen wie Björk, David Bowie und Brian Eno zum Einsatz. In „You Don’t Have To Worry“ wird sie zum heimlichen Star. Visuell ergänzt wird der Song mit einem in liebevoller Heimarbeit gebastelten Scrapcook-Lyric-Video, das so detailreich gestaltet ist, wie die Musik der Band selbst. Der Song und die EP entstand in Zusammenarbeit mit der Produzentenlegende Olaf Opal (The Notwist, Die Sterne) der den Sound der drei Frauen erstaunlich ungefiltert eingefangen hat. Der Name schwingt nicht nur super, CLÄNG machen einfach Elektro-Pop vom Feinsten. Die Drei lassen ihr Können als eine Art Superkraft in ihrer CLÄNG-Band zusammenfließen. Sängerin und Songwriterin Angela Peltner jongliert mit Metaphern, kitzelt Wortwitzen an den Füßen und bringt todescharmant ehrlich auf den Punkt, was es eben zu benennen gilt. Angelas markante Stimme strotzt vor Energie und Optimismus und setzt einem von Sekunde eins an Flausen ins Ohr. Ihre neue Single "Reise" ist der Vorbote für ihre EP, die am 03.07.20 erscheint. Sie handelt von Abschied und Neuanfang - neue Lebensabschnitte bringen immer bittersüße Gefühle mit sich. Die Wahlberliner verstehen das Leben als eine einzige Reise und verbinden damit Themen wie Heimat, Freunde, alte Versprechen und Momente, die sich eingebrannt haben, als Dinge zum ersten Mal gewagt wurden. Dabei ist „Reise“ auch eine Hommage an die geliebten Menschen, die man zurückgelassen hat. Sängerin Angela hatte aus der Angst heraus, ihre älteste Freundin aus ihrer Heimatstadt Magdeburg an eine schwere Krankheit zu verlieren, mit den Lyrics ihr Innerstes nach außen gekehrt. Der Songs entstand in einer Nacht und einem halben Tag im Home-Recording-Studio ihrer Band-WG in Berlin.

„Reise“ ist trotz seiner Melancholie gleichzeitig unerhört hoffnungsvoll. Es ist ein Aufbruch in eine ungewisse Zukunft. Man geht mit Feuer und Neugierde in das Abenteuer. Der Song adressiert ein Gefühl, dass tief in uns Menschen verankert ist. Ein Geheimnis, das jeder kennt. Das Musikvideo handelt über das Abschied nehmen, einem wesentlichen Bestandteil aller Reisen. Für den Dreh lud die Band eine kleine Horde Freunde zu Angela nach Hause ein. Tatsächlich war es der letzte Tag vor der Pandemie, an dem solch ein herzliches Zusammenkommen möglich war. So bekam das geplante Thema Abschied angesichts der absehbaren Kontaktbeschränkungen eine ganz neue Dimension. Bis auf die Unterhose ehrlich haben Band und Gäste pure Emotionen vor der Kamera gezeigt.
